Wisdom Circles

We need to meet the complexity of our times in ways that nurture connection; build our capacity for open-hearted engagement; and expand our access to new levels of imagination, inspiration and wisdom.

Wisdom Circles grew out of my own longing during these turbulent times – for community, for strength to turn more courageously toward the world even in the midst of heartbreak, and for space that could support a deeper kind of listening.

The idea of circling – gathering in intentional and sacred community – is not new. It is an ancient and potent technology that is needed once again.

A circle is the safety of togetherness. In the warmth of shared holding and care, we can meet ourselves and the world with courage. In community, what is too hard to face alone can be welcomed, met with love, and brought into the story of our shared humanity.

A circle is also a portal, a concentration and amplification of energy, a widening of receptivity. In a field of shared resonance, our access to new realms of understanding is deepened and expanded.

A Wisdom Circle includes:

  • Energetic grounding and opening.

  • Space to share what is alive for you at this time. The world lives in and through each of us. When we open to the truth of our experience – heartbreak, confusion, anger, violence, withdrawal, love, curiosity, shame, guilt, hope – we open to the world, letting ourselves be touched by it and affirming our connection to it. The raw messiness of our lives is fertile ground for the Circle.

  • Opening to mystery. We open ourselves through receptive stillness and deep listening, following the path laid by poets, mystics, and contemplative traditions through the ages. We approach the unknown as a field of possibility. The levels of imagination needed for the challenges we face is beyond what any of us can manufacture through analytical brainpower or will. It is only in connection with the numinous that we will touch into a well of knowing and innovation deep and vast enough to source a generative future.

  • Speaking what we receive. Each of us can be a conduit for the emergent future. Often, what we receive may be for the whole or be relevant for someone else in the Circle in ways we can’t anticipate.

  • Closing opportunity for reflection and integration.
